Welsh NHS Confederation comments on waiting times in NHS Wales

A spokesperson for the Welsh NHS Confederation said: “We know that health services in all parts of the UK are under increasing pressure from rising demand.

“When it comes to waiting times, there are some cases where patients are waiting longer for treatment than we would like and there is work to be done. Our members are working hard to address this demand and keep waiting times to a minimum.

“It is also important to remember that waiting times capture only one part of what the NHS does. Much of the work carried out by the NHS is helping people to manage long-term conditions, often in primary care and the community, and avoid the need for hospital admission.

“Re-thinking the way services are organised could improve things for both the service and patients. We know that transformational changes are needed across the whole of the NHS so we can build services around patient needs and help them to stay healthy and independent for as long as possible.

“While waiting times will always be a priority, our members will continue to work hard to improve the quality of care, and people’s health and wellbeing in the future.”
