Welsh Trade Mission heads to San Francisco

The West Coast of the United States is the focus for the Welsh Government’s latest trade mission as it leads a delegation of ten Welsh companies from across the ICT and creative industries spectrum to San Francisco.

The five-day day mission runs from 27 September until 2 October and has been specifically organised to coincide with the GMIC (Global Mobile Internet Conference), Silicon Valley’s largest mobile conference which attracts thousands of visitors from over 60 countries.

Silicon Valley is a renowned hub for the incubation and development of emerging technologies. With a GDP of $535 billion, the bay area ranks 19th in the world when compared to national economies and is at the cutting edge of global technology.

As well as being able to promote their products and services on the international stage and explore export avenues, delegates will also be given the unique opportunity to connect with sector experts, foster strategic partnerships and learn more about doing business in the USA.

Economy, Science and Transport Minister, Edwina Hart said:

"The United States is by far Wales’ largest export market and was worth £2.834 billion to the Welsh Economy in 2014.

“As the world’s premier economic power-house, engaging with businesses there is essential for Wales and this trade mission aims to do just that.

“As a pro-business Government we recognise the importance of internal trade and our overseas missions are tailored to help businesses make the most of all the opportunities presented.”

As well as attending an evening reception hosted at the residence of the British Consul-General, the delegation will also visit local companies and attend the US theatre premier of For the Love of Comrades, which is based on the Welsh hit movie Pride.

Companies taking part in the mission are: Marshmallow Entertainment, UDL Intellectual Property LLP, Sugar Creative Studio Ltd, Anytime Films Ltd, Study Bridge International, Aspire2Be, Aim2Sustain Ltd, Pwinty Ltd, Doopoll Ltd, and Comtek Network Systems (UK) Ltd.
