Welsh drug dealer had cannabis factory in his cellar

A drug dealer who set up a cannabis factory in the cellar of his home in Cardiff has been jailed.

Fitzroy Brown, 50, was arrested after travelling to London with fellow dealer Greg Guthrie, 41, in April 2014.

After NCA officers observed the duo meeting a group of men outside a flat in Peckham the car they were travelling in was pulled over. Wraps of cocaine and crack cocaine were found in an envelope under a the driver’s seat.

Officers went to search Brown’s property in Beachamp Street, Cardiff, where they found dozens of cannabis plants and hydroponic equipment.

Jailed: Brown (L) and Guthrie

Brown claimed he didn’t know the plants were there, and denied charges of conspiring to supply class A drugs and cannabis production.

But on Thursday 25 June he was found guilty by a jury at Cardiff Crown Court.

On Friday 3 July he was jailed for five and a half years. At the same hearing Guthrie, of Wilkinson Close, Splott, was jailed for three years after admitting conspiring to supply class A drugs.

Bleddyn Price, from the National Crime Agency’s Wales branch, said:

“Guthrie and Brown were drug dealers who intend to purchase illegal drugs in London to sell on the streets of Cardiff. Brown was also involved in the cultivation of cannabis himself.

“We are determined to do everything in our power to disrupt organised criminal groups like this and prevent them from impacting upon communities here in Wales.”
