A serving West Midlands Police officer is due to appear before Birmingham Magistrates Court on Friday, 12 February, charged with two counts of sexual assault and one count of misconduct in a public office following an investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

After reviewing the evidence gathered by the IPCC the Crown Prosecution Service authorised the charges against Steven Walters, aged 47, a Police Constable based at Sutton Coldfield. The charges relate to offences allegedly committed against three women between January and April last year (2015).

Walters, who is currently suspended from duty, was charged when he answered bail on Friday, 15 January.
