Wheels set in motion for new Met line extension

Work to extend the Metropolitan line to Watford Junction is planned to start next year, TfL has announced.

The extension will create two new Tube stations - Cassiobridge and Watford Vicarage Road - and is expected to boost the local economy by £2bn and create more than 6,500 permanent jobs.

Aimed to be completed by 2020, the line extension will support regeneration in and around Watford by making journeys to and from central London easier. It will also provide new links to Watford General Hospital and new Health Campus, Croxley Business Park and Cardiff Road Industrial Estate.

Nick Brown, Managing Director of London Underground, said: 'By 2020 we will have built a 400metre viaduct, two new stations and numerous new and reconstructed bridges along the route, transforming transport links in Watford.'

The new line will connect to the West Coast Mainline at Watford Junction and will be served by new walk-through air-conditioned trains every ten minutes to and from central London during the peak hours.
