Work Foundation - Any redesign of ESA must be evidence based to aid return to work

Commenting on the Work and Pensions Committee report on ESA and WCA, Karen Steadman, researcher at Lanchester University's Work Foundation, said:

“Any proposed fundamental redesign of the ESA end-to-end process should be reflective of the evidence base around what support helps people with health conditions and disabilities to return to work. For example, the Individual Placement and Support model of supported employment has a solid, international evidence base for supporting those with severe mental health conditions back into the labour market, and helping them to remain there, through the provision of ongoing support for both the individuals and employers.”
