A reminder about the November workshops on the current state of public sector information (PSI) related markets.

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has commissionedDotEcon to undertake an evaluation of the Office of Fair Trading (OFT’s) 2006 market study into the commercial use of public information. We want to find out how the OFT’s recommendations have affected the availability and use of PSI, and to estimate the benefits that can be attributed to the OFT study. More information is available in our September announcement.

We are holding open workshops in November to give PSI holders and users a chance to comment on the current state of PSI-related markets, hypotheses about the impact of the OFT study and any remaining concerns or challenges.

If you hold or use PSI, and are interested in participating, please let us know by emailing cupi-evaluation@dotecon.com by 31 October 2014, providing a brief overview of your involvement with PSI. We will then send you further information about contributing to the study.

If you’d like to submit your views in writing, please email cupi-evaluation@dotecon.com by 21 November 2014. Please indicate the context in which you are providing your views, including the organisation (if any) you represent. Please consider the following questions in your response:

• What are the main changes in the provision and use of PSI since 2006? What do you consider to be the key drivers of these? How have these changes affected you/your organisation?
• Have you heard of the recommendations made by the OFT market study looking at commercial use of public information? What impact do you consider this study to have had on the provision and use of PSI? Have the recommendations affected you/your organisation, and if so how?
• What are the key remaining challenges faced in the market for the provision and commercial re-use of PSI? To what extent are these similar to the key challenges for the market of 5 to 10 years ago?
