World Hepatitis Day 2014: David Cameron’s message

The Prime Minister has issued a statement for World Hepatitis Day 2014.

David Cameron said:

Hepatitis C is a treatable and curable virus, and yet deaths from this disease are continuing to rise. We are committed to fighting this as part of our work to reduce premature mortality from liver disease, so it is crucial that awareness is improved and that more people are tested and diagnosed early in order to access life-saving treatments.

Significant progress has been made recently in tackling hepatitis C, including this government’s introduction of an opt-out blood borne virus testing policy in prisons. Today, on World Hepatitis Day, 28 July 2014, I urge the continuation of this good work to improve the awareness and testing of hepatitis C, and call on anyone who might be at risk to get tested.
