Yesterday marked the start of techUK's IoT week

This week we're showcasing the UK's work in the Internet of Things.

techUK launched its IoT programme in October last year with the purpose of promoting the opportunities IoT will deliver UK Plc and increasing understanding of how those opportunities could be realised.

It's been a great start. In addition to a host of great events, the introduction of our monthly newsletter and some great media coverage, we've also played a leading role in lobbying the government to invest funding into IoT projects and demonstrators - a goal that was subsequently realised when the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced £40 million of funding for IoT smart city and NHS demonstrators in his March budget this year.

Such successes are, of course, great but there remains much more that needs to be done if the UK is going to benefit from the IoT revolution. Raising awareness of the IoT opportunity is one key area that needs further work and this is where IoT week comes in...

IoT week is all about showcasing all the great work techUK's members are doing and how they are helping make the UK a leader in IoT development.

We'll be bringing you a series of blogs from key players in IoT and, from Wednesday onwards, we'll be publishing three white papers on the application of IoT in three key vertical areas: healthcare, transport and energy.

Our blog writers include Ed Vaizey (the Minister of State for the Digital Economy), Chi Onwurah (Shadow Minister of State for the Digital Economy) and Ben Marathapu of NHS England and Wales. We'll also be getting the views of TFL, as well as from senior representatives from some of techUK's member companies.

It promises to be a great week of original content promoting what's great about the UK's IoT capabilities and we want you to be part of it. Throughout the week we'll be tweeting using the hashtag #IoTweekUK so please engage with us and give us your views.
