techUK Member Launches Data Skills Marketplace

Pivigo launch Marketplace aimed at increasing the number of Data Scientists to ensure the UK can continue to benefit from the Big Data Revolution.

On Tuesday 24 January techUK attended the launch of techUK member Pivigo’s Marketplace. Pivigo’s Marketplace aims to develop the capabilities needed to meet the flexibility of the modern data market and help increase the availability of highly-skilled data scientists. As an increasingly large number of organisations see the benefit in adopting data-driven strategies the UK will need to ensure it is in a position to guarantee the skills required to deliver such projects.

This crucial issue was the subject of techUK’s 'Understanding, Demystifying and Addressing the UK’s Big Data Skills Gap' which Kim Nilsson, Pivigo CEO was heavily involved in developing. That paper outlined the need to truly understand the breadth of skills required to deliver big data strategies and where current gaps in the UK’s skills base currently exists in those areas.

Pivigo’s launch also heard from Paul Ellis, CEO Electron who outlined the use of blockchain technologies and its wider application outside the finance sector. Mike Bugembe, Chief Analytics Officer, Just Giving, provided case studies of companies who have utilised data to success in non-traditional data markets such as sports, and police and judicial services.

The event also heard from Derek Wax, Producer of Channel 4’s ‘Humans’ and Shivvy Jervis, Award-winning Tech Futurist, who touched on some of the ethical issues surrounding Artificial Intelligence. This will be a key theme of techUK’s Cloud, Data, Analytics and AI Programme in 2017.

techUK is delighted that its members continue to drive forward issues of key importance, such as big data skills, for the entire tech industry. If you would like any more information about techUK’s work in this area please contact Jeremy Lilley.
