techUK's inaugural ‘Cloud Champion’

techUK's 'Cloud Champion' campaign highlights and celebrates the work of UK Cloud Computing leaders

techUK's 'Cloud Champion' campaign will showcase technology leaders that are playing a leadership role in championing and supporting organisation’s move to the cloud. The campaign will highlight best practice by leaders that are creating cloud enabled organisations, across all sectors, and a cloud driven workforce that will be vital for the UK’s digital future.

This campaign follows the launch of techUK's Cloud 2020 Vision for keeping the UK at the forefront of Cloud adoption which highlighted the importance of supporting organisations given the cultural shift required to optimise the use of cloud.

As part of techUK activities this week looking at the power of tech to transform local Government public services (#techUKlocalgov) the first Cloud Champion is Carlos Oliveira, CEO at Shaping Cloud and Vice Chair of techUK’s Local Government Public Services Committee.

A new techUK 'Cloud Champion’ will be chosen every month, so if you would like to nominate a friend or colleague to be the next 'Cloud Champion' please drop Sue Daley a line with a bit of information about them!

September's Cloud Champion Carlos Oliveira, CEO at Shaping Cloud and Vice Chair of techUK’s Local Government Public Services Committee.

Read on for a little taster and find the full interview below.

What is your current role and responsibilities?

As CEO I’m directly responsible for the day to day running of the company. I also feel a personal responsibility to ensure we are working closely with the public sector to make positive changes to people’s lives through improved public sector service delivery.

What does a typical day involve?

I would say that typical days are hard to come by! We work with clients all over the country now so I spend a lot of time on the phone and on Slack just keeping in touch with what’s going on. I also spend a lot of time using SaaS based tools such as Harvest, Xero, Hubspot and Jira which help me keep on top of our KPIs and ensure the business is going in the right direction.

What do you most enjoy about your work?

I love the fact that we are leading the way in bringing new cloud technologies to the public sector market and actually making a positive difference to people’s lives. Many SMEs actively stay away from the sector as they feel that it is too slow to move and innovate but we have worked with some fantastic clients over the past 2 years such as Wokingham Borough Council who are really embracing the benefits that cloud can deliver both internally but also for the citizens that they serve.

Carlos gave more detailed answers to these and other questions which you can read by clicking below.

Look out for October’s Cloud Champion Matthew McGrory, Managing Director for Carrenza Ltd.
