2016 School Games a roaring success

6 Sep 2016 02:44 PM

More than 1,600 talented young people unleashed top performances at the 2016 School Games.

For many of the athletes competing, the National Lottery-funded event is the first taste of organised competitive sport. Organised by the Youth Sport Trust, the event features 12 sports over four days and offers young people the chance to experience the highs and lows of the sporting arena.

15% of Team GB athletes in Rio were School Games alumni

Developing future talent is a crucial part of our Towards an Active Nation strategy, and the School Games feeds into the work we're doing to set talented young athletes on the road to success.

Double-Olympic gold medalist and School Games alumnus Max Whitlock helped get things underway on Thursday night in a glitzy opening ceremony held on the university campus.
