Be the tortoise not the hare

A new teenage road safety campaign takes its inspiration from Aesop's fable of the hare and the tortoise.

This week, video-on-demand platforms and cinemas across the Capital will be showing our new road safety campaign for young teenage pedestrians, urging them to pay attention when crossing the road.

In a retelling of Aesop's well-known fable, two groups of friends - one wearing hare masks and the other tortoise masks - set off to a party.

While the tortoises make their way carefully, the hares rush to their destination, leading to a tragic outcome. The message is: 'Think slow when crossing'.

The number of teenage pedestrians killed or seriously injured on London's roads has fallen over recent years.

Despite this welcome reduction, tackling teen casualties remains a top priority, we and the Mayor have made six commitments that are guiding work to deliver the target of reducing deaths and serious injury by 40 per cent by 2020.
