Citizens Advice has responded to news that npower has announced a 5.2% cut to its standard gas tariff for residential customers effective from Monday 28 March 2016.
Gillian Guy, Chief Executive of Citizens Advice, said:
“It’s good that energy suppliers are finally accepting their bills are too high.
“npower has become the fourth firm to cut its gas prices in recent weeks, but like its competitors, it should go further. Customers won’t see a decrease in price until the end of March and the cuts could be more generous.
“The price drop is a step in the right direction for the sector but energy suppliers shouldn’t just draw a line in the sand here. Wholesale costs have plummeted drastically in the last year and it’s only fair customers see the benefits of that. Other firms must now act urgently and slash their bills.”
