Chief Executive of NHSScotland to present at BCS Health Informatics Conference Scotland 2016

BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, is delighted to announce that Paul Gray, the Director-General Health and Social Care, Chief Executive of NHSScotland, will present a keynote at this year’s BCS Health Informatics Conference in Scotland. The conference now in its eighth year will take place at the Strathclyde Technology Innovation Centre on 11-12 October, 2016.
The leading annual conference, run by the BCS Health Scotland Specialist Group, is held to showcase the latest advances in the field of IT, eHealth and health Informatics. The key themes of the 2016 conference are eHealth, Integrated Care & Care Quality Improvement.

Speakers on Care Quality Improvement will include: Paul Gray, Chief Executive of NHSScotland and Professor Jason Leitch, National Clinical Director, Healthcare Quality and Strategy, Scottish Government.
Speakers on eHealth & Integrated Care will include Dr Anne Hendry, National clinical lead for Integrated Care, Joint Improvement Team and Dr Paul Campbell, Chair of the eHealth Clinical Change Leadership Group (CCLG).
The conference will see a range of exciting and cutting-edge presentations from leading experts in the field of health and informatics across the UK. David Evans, Director for Policy and Community, at BCS, will explore the topic of health records and personal data in light of recent news headlines in this sphere.
David Evans, Director for Policy and Community, at BCS says: “Every time we tap our smart phone, buy something, or visit a hospital, we are creating an overwhelming data footprint that travels all over the world with varying degrees of control and oversight. I will talk about how we need to keep striving for the full benefit of health data, with minimum harm to everyone.”
The conference will also review the latest eHealth national policy updates provided by Eddie Turnbull Head of eHealth at Scottish Government and Mike Ogonovsky, Head of Health and Social Care Informatics at NHS Wales. Richard Foggo, Deputy Director and Head of Primary Care will provide an update on the implementation of the Scottish Primary Care Information Resource (SPIRE). Dr Matt-Mouley Bouamrane, Lecturer in eHealth at the University of Strathclyde will review examples of best practice in technology innovation for ‘Healthy and Active Aging’ as part of the INTERREG Europe Network for Technology, Innovation and Translation in Ageing (TITTAN).
Dr Matt continues: “There is an ideal forum for researchers to present the latest updates on their research and development activities through the research track. This year, we will host a seminar on ‘eMental Health’ in Collaboration with Trevor Lakey. Trevor is Health Improvement & Inequalities Manager at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and a lead partner in the Aye Mind initiative: a programme aiming to improve the mental health and wellbeing of young people by making better use of the internet, social media and mobile technologies.”

The two day conference will take place on 11 - 12 October and forms part of a two day programme which will be of interest to those working in the health IT industry, NHS, policymakers, academics and IT community.

BCS Health Scotland represents Scotland’s Health Informatics Community (SHIC) on national and internal groups to promote and influence health informatics.

BCS Health Scotland is a multi-professional group that aims to promote the development and use of Health Informatics in Scotland to support effective, evidence based, efficient health and social care in areas of research, education, practice, and management decision making. This is intended to benefit the health of individuals, communities, and populations that receive health and social care services and the staff and organisations that deliver health and related services.
The BCS Health Scotland aims to:
- Represent Scotland's Health Informatics Community (SHIC) on national and international groups to promote and influence health informatics.
- Act as a consultation mechanism for relevant national and international projects and standards on health informatics.
- Share good practice across SHIC and emanating from SHIC to the wider health community, other agencies and organisations.
- Establish links with research, academic, educational, government, industry, charities, patient and community groups.
- Initiate health informatics projects with appropriate partners.
- Provide a Scottish health informatics perspective within Scottish and UK government initiatives.
- Support SHIC to promote health informatics at national and international conference
