Royal Mail has announced that the price of first and second class will rise by 1p from 27 March. A stamp for large first class letter will rise by 2p to 98p.
Citizens Advice Director of Post and Telecoms, Andrew Rodger, said:
“Affordable postal services are essential for people across the country.
“The stamp price rises are broadly in line with inflation. It’s critical that Royal Mail carefully considers the impact on consumers when making any future pricing decisions.
“It’s important that people know how to get the best value when using the post. Simple steps, like using the correct envelope size, or planning ahead so you use a second class stamp, can save people money.”
Citizens Advice has the statutory duty to represent consumers in the postal and energy markets.
