Commenting on the
announcement by Glasgow 2014 that the sales process for the latest phase of
Games tickets would restart on Wednesday 21 May, Cabinet Secretary for
Commonwealth Games and Sport Shona Robison said:
“Commonwealth Games tickets will return to sale on Wednesday, providing
thousands of new opportunities for individuals and families to be part of what
will be the greatest Games ever.
“Progress
has been made with Ticketmaster on the technical issues related to the website
and the Games organisers have received assurances from the company that the
system will be able to cope with the expected substantial demand when it is
re-launched.
“Both
Glasgow 2014 and Ticketmaster have listened to customer feedback and I believe
the move to a phased rollout for this release of tickets is a sensible approach
to alleviate pressure on the website and give people greater clarity on
availability for individual events.
“Following
the regrettable experience of some callers to the helpline who were charged
excessive bills in error, it is very welcome that a full refund to these
individuals has been offered and that the call centre operation to be deployed
by Ticketmaster when the sales process restarts will be via a Freephone number.
I also welcome the decision to waive postage charges on all new
orders.
“Throughout
this entire process, the sole focus of the Games organisers has been to resolve
the problems that halted the ticket process. Glasgow 2014 and Ticketmaster are
working together to ensure that the tickets can be distributed to those who
want to join the hundreds of thousands of existing ticketholders in sharing the
fantastic experience of the Games the summer.”
