HMRC consultation: Proper resourcing is needed to tackle tax avoidance, says ARC union
28 Sep 2016 03:04 PM
Responding to the publication of HMRC's consultation document on strengthening tax avoidance sanctions and deterrents, Association of Revenue and Customs (ARC) President Vicky Johnson said:
"ARC has always welcomed any move to tackle tax avoidance and ensure that everyone pays the correct amount of tax.
"The most effective way to do this is to provide HMRC with the investment it needs to be properly resourced; with a pay system that rewards and retains the senior professionals needed to carry out Government policy.
"The consultation seeks to improve the tools available: ARC urges the Government to address the issues of pay and reward."

ARC represents members in HMRC at grade 7 and above, and also trainees in grade 7 entry schemes. It is also a section of the FDA.
- The FDA is the trade union and professional body representing 18,000 of the UK's senior civil and public servants. Our members include policy advisors, senior managers, tax inspectors, economists, statisticians, accountants, special advisers, government lawyers, diplomats, crown prosecutors and NHS managers.
- The FDA (formerly the First Division Association) should be referred to simply as "The FDA" and can be described as "the senior public servants' union".
