IPCC names man who died in police custody in Leeds

A man who died in police custody at a Leeds
police station on Monday 12 May has been named as 46 year old Adam
Rice.
The
IPCC is independently investigating the circumstances surrounding Mr
Rice’s death following a referral from West Yorkshire
Police.
At
around 9.30 pm on Sunday 11 May, had been arrested by West Yorkshire Police
officers at Leeds General Infirmary on an outstanding warrant for theft
offences. He was taken to Elland Road police station, and placed in a cell in
the custody suite. Mr Rice was found to be unresponsive when
checked in his cell at 7am on Monday 12 May, and despite attempts to
resuscitate him, he was confirmed dead around 45 minutes
later.
An
inquest was opened and adjourned at Wakefield Coroner’s Court on Thursday
22 May.
IPCC investigators are in contact with Mr Rice’s
family and will keep them updated as
the investigation continues.
