23 Apr 2015 12:03 PM

On 21–22 April, the Human Rights Working Group (COHOM) of the EU Council met in Riga to discuss issues of current importance for the EU's external human rights policy.

The working group deals with various human rights aspects of EU external relations, including the integration of human rights into EU policies, activities in international formats, dialogues with third countries, and human rights violations  in third countries. COHOM comprises experts from EU Member States, the European External Action Service and the European Commission. In the working group, Latvia pays special attention to its human rights priorities: gender equality, freedom of speech, and the engagement of civil society.

The informal meetings of the working group are traditionally held once every half year in the country holding the Presidency of the EU Council.
