A Pakistani student has been found guilty in a US court of providing support to Al-Qaida and conspiring to use a destructive device.

Prosecutors argued that Abid Naseer was part of a conspiracy to attack a number of Western targets including the Arndale shopping complex in Manchester and the New York subway system.

MI5 surveillance officers who followed Naseer in the UK in 2009 gave evidence during the trial under light disguise to protect their identities.

No date has been set for sentencing. Naseer faces up to life imprisonment.
