I
want to send my very best wishes to Jewish people in Britain and across the
world as the festival of Passover begins.
Passover marks the Children of Israel’s release
from slavery – representing the triumph of freedom over tyranny, of hope
over despair.
Last month I was in Israel, where I reaffirmed one of
our biggest hopes: for Jewish people to feel free and safe in their homeland.
So this Passover, I want us to renew our commitment to peace between Israel and
its neighbours.
As
we remember the suffering and persecution faced by Jewish people for thousands
of years, let’s also reflect upon their resilience, their steadfastness
and their extraordinary contribution to Britain and the world.
Once again, let me wish you and your family Chag Sameach
and a good Pesach to you all.
