Finance Secretary John Swinney responds to
survey.
Commenting on the
latest Bank of Scotland PMI Survey, Cabinet Secretary for Finance, Employment
and Sustainable Growth said:
“We welcome
these figures which indicate Scottish private sector activity expanded for the
20th consecutive month in May, driven by strong growth in both the Services and
Manufacturing sectors. The PMI survey also reports a rise in employment and an
expansion in new orders.
“The survey
results follow on from recent GDP and labour market statistics which showed
that employment levels are at their highest since records began in 1992, with
2,585,000 people over 16 now employed in Scotland.
“The
recovery in Scotland’s economy is continuing, with growth widely forecast
to accelerate this year. With full fiscal and economic powers of independence,
the Scottish Government could do so much more to strengthen our economy and
create more jobs.”
