Workshop on lumpy skin disease

8 Jul 2016 11:44 AM

The report on the outcomes of the workshop on lumpy skin disease organised by EFSA and the European Commission in May 2016 is now available.

It provides an overview of the latest available knowledge on epidemiology, diagnostic and control of lumpy skin disease.

This is an economically damaging disease which affects cattle and is transmitted by insect vectors (such as mosquitoes, flies, ticks). It is spreading quickly in South East Europe.

More than 40 experts from across the European Union and beyond attended the workshop.

The outcomes of the workshop contribute to highlight knowledge gaps, increase awareness about lumpy skin disease and help strengthen the cooperation between countries on its prevention and control.

EFSA experts are currently assessing the effectiveness of different measures to control the spread of the disease. They will deliver their scientific advice by 31 July 2016.
