Raise a glass to the Action Plan for the Welsh Drinks Industry

Government support for the Welsh drinks industry has been strengthened by the publication of a plan of action outlining how the Welsh Government will support future growth for the Welsh drinks industry.

The Welsh Government’s Action Plan for the Welsh Drinks Industry was recently  launched by the Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Food, Fisheries and European Programmes Alun Davies.

The document has been created in direct response to the concerns and demands of the industry, and will provide specific expertise such as marketing and branding advice as well as guidance and support on the potentials of exporting produce.

The action plan seeks to identify areas of opportunities and improvement that could be taken advantage of by Welsh drinks producers, and also includes the findings of the most recent market research for the drinks sector.

The Deputy Minister said:

“I am delighted to launch the Action Plan for the Welsh Drinks Industry on behalf of the Welsh Government, and that we are now in a position to continue to work together to secure a more sustainable, profitable and high profile drinks sector for Wales.

“I know that the industry has great potential to grow and I hope this plan will represent the voice of the sector in Wales.  The whole of the food and drinks industry in Wales is of extreme economic importance for the country and the Welsh Government remains committed to supporting and strengthening the sector.”

The Action Plan has been developed as a result of the first Welsh Drinks Summit held last autumn in Aberystwyth, which was hosted by the Deputy Minister.  The key findings and recommendations from that were collated and drawn upon in the plan to help drive forward the development of the sector.

Through the Programme for Government, the Welsh Government have committed to delivering support for Welsh producers, and this action plan for the drinks industry represents a contribution to that commitment by Government.
