NATIONAL SCHOOL WORKSHOP TO DEMISTIFY SUSTAINABILITY
Sustainable development - learning to live and govern ourselves within environmental limits and in a way that shares resources and strengthens peace, justice and a sense of fairness is now the overarching objective for public policy both in the and across the world.
‘Getting in Touch with the Future’ - a half-day workshop from the National School of Government - will help civil servants get a basic understanding of this complex issue, and consider their personal and organisational contributions to sustainable development in the future.
Scheduled for the afternoon of Thursday 19 June at Admiralty Arch in Whitehall, ‘Getting in Touch with the Future’ is designed for public officials at all levels who seek a basic understanding of sustainability and the Government’s current approach to it. Keynote presentations and expert input will accompany group discussion, with topics covered including:
- ‘Kyoto ’ and other international agreements, and milestones such as the Stern Review
- Government policies, targets and objectives
- Concepts including climate science, carbon trading, energy security, innovation and localisation
- Everyday life in a low carbon society
Programme Director Adrian Robertson commented: “Wherever public servants work and whatever they do, sustainability issues will become increasingly important to them. This workshop is a straightforward and, I hope, enjoyable introduction to the subject, and to the work of the National School in preparing officials to deal with it.”
As well as informing individual development programmes, Sustainable Development is one of the themes through which the National School works with organisations to ensure they have the necessary capability to deliver against cross-cutting Public Service Agreement targets.
The ‘Getting in Touch with the Future’ workshop is priced at £85.
