PCR test for Bluetongue now available from the Veterinary Laboratories Agency

DEPARTMENT FOR ENVIRONMENT, FOOD AND RURAL AFFAIRS News Release (201/08) issued by The Government News Network on 1 July 2008

The Veterinary Laboratories Agency has worked in collaboration with the Institute of Animal Health (IAH) at Pirbright to introduce the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test for Bluetongue virus.

This test is now available via veterinary surgeons for pre-movement (UK) and export testing purposes only.

As of this date, PCR testing for these purposes will no longer be available from IAH, Pirbright. For further information see http://www.vla.gov.uk.
