FSA adds development tools for enforcement officers

The FSA provides help for officers to develop their knowledge through training tools, professional courses and funding for local authority-led work. For officers currently looking at their development plans, the Agency has added two new tools to the Enforcement section of the website.

Food law and its enforcement changes over time. It is essential that enforcement officers keep up to date with these changes and that enforcement is consistent across the UK.

In November 2011 the common approach to professional competency framework for local authority regulators was launched, led by BRDO in partnership with the Regulatory Excellence Forum. Its key features are:

  • the Regulators’ Development Needs Analysis (RDNA) self-assessment tool
  • Guidance for Regulators – Information Point (GRIP), designed to help meet any development needs identified

The Agency has added RDNA and GRIP to the Enforcement section of the website for officers to begin to use the tools. RDNA will also be part of the FSA’s revision of the Code of Practice and the Agency would like to get input from authorities on the tools' use to help that work.

The tools, along with a range of other training resources, can be accessed via the link below.
