Campaign says 'thank you' to further education workforce

Did you know that thanks to the work of more than 260,000 professionals working in further education in England almost 3 million people have improved their literacy and numeracy skills? Or that because of these same people apprenticeships are available in 180 different careers across 80 sectors?

Further education has a far reaching impact, bringing benefits to UK businesses, communities and individuals, especially in the fight against the recession.

Today a major campaign has launched to raise awareness of the invaluable role the FE sector in England plays. Lifelong Learning UK has developed the FE Works campaign on behalf of the FE Reputation Strategy Group. Dr Alison Birkinshaw, Chair of the Group, comments:

"Too often the FE sector doesn't get the recognition it deserves.  Over 2.8 million people have improved their basic skills because of the hard work of our colleagues in FE across the country.  These are fantastic results but ones that too often people don't recall.  This campaign will help reinforce this in the minds of everyone, including the government, employers, communities and learners."

If you work in further education, check out the campaign website www.feworks.org, where you'll be able to find a whole range of resources and material that you and your organisation can use in your own communications.
