Small grants for VCS workforce development launched

The National Council for Voluntary Youth Services (NCVYS), with funding from CWDC, have launched a Share and Learn Grant Scheme to support voluntary and community sector (VCS) front-line organisations delivering services to children, young people and families to share their experience of supporting and developing their staff and volunteers and enable other front-line organisations to learn from their practice.

The scheme will sign-up 13 Workforce Development Champions across England, who will share information about their work and host learning visits.  A small number of grants are also available to 26 front-line organisations (known as Learning Partners) to take part in learning visits. Other organisations will be able to learn from the good practice examples the Champions will produce.

Application deadline for Champions is the 16 December 2010 and for Learning Partners the deadline is 14 January 2011.

The scheme is funded by the Children's Workforce Development Council and managed by the National Council for Voluntary Youth Services on behalf of a Children and Young People's Voluntary Sector Workforce Consortium, a consortium led by Children England and including the National Council for Voluntary Youth Services (NCVYS), the National Association for Voluntary and Community Action (NAVCA), and the Race Equality Foundation (REF) with the aim of supporting VCS workforce development.

Janet Blackledge, Assistant Director for Sector Investment at CWDC, said: "We have been working with the consortium to support children, young people and families organisations in the voluntary and community sector. This grant scheme is a valuable opportunity for front line VCS organisations to learn first hand from others who have developed expertise in the area of workforce development".
