Universities to publish employability statements

HEFCE has asked all higher education institutions and HEFCE- funded further education colleges to publish employability statements on the help they provide to students to improve their employability and transition into work.

The information will be published on the commentary section of the Unistats web-site (www.unistats.com) by 31 August and institutions' own channels in time to help prospective students make informed choices about entry to higher education in 2011-12.

The invitation to publish employability statements was mentioned by Universities and Science Minister David Willetts in his speech at Oxford Brookes University yesterday.

He said:

'These statements, written directly for a student audience and readily accessible online, will summarise what universities and colleges offer students to help them become job-ready in the widest sense and support their transition into the world of work.'

As David Willetts mentioned, many universities already provide detail about what students can expect. These statements will help prospective students access and navigate existing information to help them make more informed choices.
