Cervical screening

ISD Scotland has recently day published statistics on the Scottish Cervical Screening Programme 2009-10.

A Scottish Government spokesperson said:

"Cervical screening helps save lives, it's as simple as that.

"That's why it is encouraging to note that the number of eligible women coming forward for screening continues to be high.

"In addition to detecting cancers, another very important aim of the programme is to detect pre-cancerous abnormalities at an early stage.

"We continue to work with boards to ensure that all eligible women come forward for screening. Following the research on women's attitudes to cervical screening, a new suite of information leaflets was launched across Scotland earlier this month."
