Fray Bentos canned pies recalled

Premier Foods is recalling some of its Frey Bentos canned meat pies because the pies might contain small pieces of glass. The Agency has issued a Product Recall Information Notice.

Products

The affected products are:

  • Fray Bentos ‘Boozy’ Steak & Ale Pie, 475g
  • Batch code: 1003 and 1004
  • Best before end: January 2013
  • Fray Bentos Steak & Onion Pie, 425g
  • Batch code: 1004
  • Best before end: January 2013

The batch code can be found on the base of the can.

Premier Foods is recalling the affected products from consumers and will be issuing a product recall notice in national press tomorrow, Thursday 31 March 2011. The notice explains why the products have been recalled.

If you have bought either of the products mentioned above with the affected batch code, do not eat it. For information about how to get a refund or replacement product, keep the packaging (including the batch code on the base of the can) and call the Premier Foods free consumer helpline on 0800 731 0989.

No other Fray Bentos/Premier Foods products are known to be affected.

About product withdrawals and recalls

If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it might be 'withdrawn' (taken off the shelves) or 'recalled' (when customers are asked to return the product). The Food Standards Agency issues Product Withdrawal Information Notices and Product Recall Information Notices to let consumers and local authorities know about problems associated with food. In some cases, a ‘Food Alert for Action’ is issued. This provides local authorities with details of specific action to be taken on behalf of consumers.

You can get FSA alerts about product recall and withdrawals either by email or SMS text. Visit the Get Alerts page at the link towards the bottom of this page to find out how.
