NATIONAL SCHOOL OF GOVERNMENT LEADERSHIP AWARD

Nominations are now invited for the National School of Government Leadership Award – part of the Whitehall & Westminster World Civil Service Awards 2007 in association with Ernst & Young, and endorsed by Cabinet Secretary and Head of the Home Civil Service Sir Gus O’Donnell.

Designed to celebrate achievements within government and to provide a platform for the sharing of knowledge across the whole of the Civil Service, the Awards recognise excellence in a full range of categories covering key government priorities and business disciplines.

Winners in 2006 were chosen from a strong field of over 600 entries, with Leadership Award winner Steve Baker of HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) recognised for his obvious passion and outstanding commitment to succeed. His team in HMRC had produced some truly remarkable results, including the dismantling of 10 criminal organisations and recovery of £8.5million of criminal proceeds. His willingness to adopt innovative approaches and his ability to build good working relations with delivery partners made him a highly respected and effective leader.

David Spencer, Principal and Chief Executive of the National School of Government, and a member of the judging panel, commented: “For this year’s Leadership Award, we are expecting some exceptional entries from both individuals and teams who are achieving results through strong and effective leadership full of ‘pride, pace, passion and professionalism’.”

The winner of the 2007 Leadership Award, along with winners of the other 11 category awards, will also be considered for the Cabinet Secretary Award - decided upon by a panel of present and former Cabinet Secretaries.

Nominations close on 27 July 2007, with the shortlist announced on 25 September. The awards ceremony will take place at Lancaster House, London, on 6 November 2007. Information regarding categories, criteria and nominating can be found at http://www.civilservicenetwork.com/civil-service-awards.html.
