LSN Functional Skills Support

A series of national briefing and training events

Do you know enough about functional skills?

“Functional skills are practical skills in English, mathematics and Information and Communication Technology (ICT). They help you gain the most out of work, education and everyday life. Functional skills are vital to the personal development of all learners aged 14 and above. The functional skills qualifications will be widely available, for example in schools, colleges and the workplace.”

Functional skills: essential for life, learning and work QCA

Do you need to know more?

Functional skills will be a fundamental part of the education and training landscape from 2010 onwards. It is essential that everyone involved in education and training is aware of functional skills. To stay ahead of developments in this important innovation, come and join us.

Who should attend?

The event is for:

  • practitioners and managers already involved in the delivery of functional skills
  • practitioners and managers who are not yet involved in functional skills but who may be in the future
  • trainers in workplace learning and secure estate
  • employees of Connexions and advisory services
  • support assistants

LSN is running a series of three national events in July 2009. These events will allow managers and practitioners the opportunity to be updated on functional skills developments, to network with other practitioners and to share emerging practice. There will be a range of presentations, workshops and contributions from across the pre- and post-16 sector.

National events

The National Events will be held in July in London, Coventry and Leeds. These will include lunch and run from 10.00 to 16.00. They will provide information that is relevant to all three functional skills.
