Let's talk about sex

Scots are being urged to ditch their inhibitions and talk to their partner about sex as part of a drive to cut unplanned pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections.

A sexual health marketing campaign which will launched next month and a website goes online today providing facts, help and advice - with a light-hearted approach.

Public Health Minister Shona Robison said:

"We Scots may not have a reputation for talking about our feelings but there's definitely a case for being more open when it comes to building successful relationships.

"People don't need to wear their hearts on their sleeves, but we hope this campaign will encourage people to open up to their partners and talk about what they want from the relationship.

"Knowledge is power and the website launched today provides a wealth of help and information, in a lively, interactive and sometimes thought-provoking way.

"The website is the forerunner for a wider campaign, with the ultimate aim of reducing the number of unplanned pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections."

The main strand of the marketing campaign will be to encourage people to become more open about sex. There will be two further strands - one aimed at encouraging the wider use of long-lasting, reversible contraception and the other at reducing rates of HIV.

The marketing campaign, which will feature both advertising and social marketing, will be the biggest sexual health campaign in Scotland since the tombstone HIV adverts of the 1980s.

Designed by Whitespace, the website - aimed at 20-40 year olds - cost approximately £78,000.
