Porth Eirias set to be major North Wales attraction

Porth Eirias, the new water sports centre in Colwyn Bay, is set be a major attraction in North Wales First Minister Carwyn Jones said recently as the centre prepares to open its doors to the public.

Porth Eirias will be at the heart of a major celebration this weekend (May 18 – 19)  as Colwyn Bay’s Prom Live takes place.  The event, organised by Conwy Council, will mark the opening of the centre to the public.

Porth Eirias is part of the multi-million pound Waterfront Project in the town, which also includes a new coastal defence scheme.  The project is backed by funding from the Welsh Government through the North Wales Coast Regeneration Area Programme, Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management as well as the European Regional Development Fund.

The First Minister said:

“I would like to wish Porth Eirias the best of luck as it opens its doors this weekend.  It is set to be a major attraction along the North Wales coast and will  benefit both the town and wider area.”

Housing and Regeneration Minister Carl Sargeant said:

“This is a major development for the North Wales coast and is at the heart of the regeneration strategy for Colwyn Bay.  It is good to see the results of funding and partnership working.”

Porth Eirias will be officially opened later in the year.
