Beat the bike thieves in January

Anyone who received a new bicycle for Christmas can get it security marked and registered for free this January at www.bikeregister.com.

In addition, cyclists are being encouraged to mark and register bikes at one of the many events being held by the TfL-funded Cycle Task Force and the 32 borough Safer Transport Teams this month.

Getting your bike security marked and registered is a visible deterrent for thieves. They know that if they are caught in possession of a registered bicycle, the rightful owner can be traced and they will be arrested.

To find out more about security marking events near you, visit the Metropolitan Police Service website at www.met.police.uk. For thefts from railway, Tube, Docklands Light Railway and Tramlink stations, contact the British Transport Police on 0800 405 040 or visit www.btp.police.uk
