Stopping new charities falling through the cracks - Commission launches weekly list of new registrations

CHARITY COMMISSION News Release (24/07) issued by The Government News Network on 24 July 2007

The launch today of a web-based list of newly-registered charities will help umbrella, membership and support organisations introduce the help they can offer these new charities more swiftly than ever before.

The new list has been created in response to a suggestion by just such a 'second-tier' charity. It allows anyone to view newly registered charities on a daily, weekly, monthly or quarterly basis.

Bharat Mehta, Chief Executive of the City Parochial Foundation, said,

"As a charity which helps others grow and develop, we wanted a facility to help us make contact with newly registered charities more swiftly. The Commission's response to our suggestion is a useful tool for a whole range of support and umbrella organisations out there - helping new charities join up with those who can help them on their journey as quickly as possible."

Andrew Hind, Chief Executive of the Charity Commission, said,

"We get a lot of our best ideas by listening to the sector. This is another example of how we try to respond - making the best use of our data to help charities. We hope this online list helps support organisations make contact with new charities in record time."

The list of new charities is available from the Commission's website at http://www.charitycommission.gov.uk under 'About registered charities'.
