Taskforce to safeguard RAF Lossiemouth

Richard Lochhead has called on Secretary of State Michael Moore to commit to delivering a recovery package for communities and families affected by the decision to close RAF Kinloss in Moray and to join the campaign to save RAF Lossiemouth.

Following an emergency meeting of Moray's business and community leaders held earlier today, Richard Lochhead who was present said:

"Yesterday's announcement dealt a savage blow to communities across this region which rely so heavily on defence and are now facing an uncertain future.

"Cutbacks of this scale in a largely rural area are crippling and I am calling on Scottish Secretary Michael Moore to use his visit to offer a recovery package to Kinloss and his support to save RAF Lossiemouth that faces a very uncertain future.

"Michael Moore will hear about the anger and disappointment in a community that is very worried that not content with closing one base, the UK Government will not guarantee the future of RAF Lossiemouth."
