Welsh Government helping to support people in Anglesey

The Minister for Housing and Regeneration, Carl Sargeant, was in Anglesey recently to see how Welsh Government funding is making a real difference to vulnerable people there.

Eilianfa Dispersed Supported Housing provides housing and support to individuals who have had issues with substance misuse. The property is owned by Cymdeithas Tai Eryri and the support  is  delivered by the personal support services charity CAIS. Funding of £18,194 a year is provided for this project through the Welsh Government’s Supporting People Programme Grant.

On the programme, the Minister said:

“The current financial climate, along with the effects of the UK Government’s welfare reform changes, mean that the need for organisations to work together to support vulnerable people in Wales has never been greater. Such joint working is demonstrated here by Cymdeithas Tai Eryri and CAIS.

“Supporting People plays a vital role in reducing demands on housing, health and social services in Wales and I’m delighted to see first hand the real impact this particular project is having.

“I’d like to commend CAIS and their support staff on the excellent work they are doing to ensure that people who have suffered from substance misuse receive the support, guidance and advice they need to overcome their difficulties.”

CAIS support staff are trained to deliver tenancy related support. They have a comprehensive understanding of tenancy issues, benefit advice, substance misuse issues and the network of agencies and services available to support the individuals.  Service users who enter the project are given six month short-term tenancies which can be extended up to 2 years.
