Homeless Link runs conference on preventing evictions from hostels

Unplanned moves from hostel accommodation and other supported housing projects in the form of evictions and abandonment result in people returning to street homelessness.
Repeat homelessness for this very vulnerable client group could be prevented, resulting in better outcomes for homeless people and cost savings for the agencies that support them.

Join us for a conference that will inform good practice and support organisations ro reduce preventable evictions and abandonments on 30 November 2010.

This conference will:

  • share approaches that are proven to achieve low levels of evictions and abadonments with all clients, including those with the most chaotic behaviour
  • share solutions applicable for all sized services
  • demonstrate how to balance housing management with support to change behaviour
  • show how to break the cycle and prevent further exclusions

Reducing the levels of evictions and abandonments demonstrates to commissioners that the service is offering good quality, effective provision and is meeting its targets. It is also is essential if we are to support some of the most vulnerable individuals in society and prevent more clients becoming entrenched rough sleepers.

Policymakers and commissioners will also benefit from better evidence about what works in sustaining tenancies within hostels and other supported housing projects for rough sleepers.
