Budget Timeline: What happens next?

The Welsh Government is now finalising this year’s Draft Budget.

The Draft Budget will be published on 4 October, with the Final Budget presented to the National Assembly for Wales in December.

How does the Budget process work?
Each year, Wales receives a Budget allocation from the UK Government. The Welsh Government develops plans on how to spend the Budget. These plans are presented in the Draft Budget which is laid before the National Assembly, scrutinised by Committees and debated in Plenary, before being formally approved by the Assembly.

What areas does the Budget cover?
The Welsh Government's Budget funds some of our most vital public services, including hospitals, universities and colleges, roads, fire and ambulance services, and the large number of services, such as schools and social services, that are provided by councils.

What are the Welsh Government's priorities for the Budget?

Over the past few months, members of the Welsh Government Cabinet have been considering priorities for the forthcoming Budget, and in line with last year's Draft Budget are working on settlements that protect the most vulnerable people in Wales and deliver public services efficiently based on what Welsh citizens need, and where they need it.
Specific details about how much the Welsh Government plans to spend on different areas will not be known until the day of the Draft Budget.
