Campaign hand-in event with Nick Clegg on Millennium Development Goals ahead of UN meeting
Bond, the UK coalition of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) working in international development, will host a special event on 15 September with Nick Clegg, Deputy Prime Minister and Andrew Mitchell, Secretary of State for Development.
The event will be the Deputy Prime Minister's first public address on the issues of development and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) since taking office in May.
As the two leading representatives of the UK delegation to the critical United Nations MDG Review meeting in New York in late September, Mr Clegg and Mr Mitchell will outline the UK Government's priorities for the meeting and its overall approach to development and the fulfilment of the UK's MDG commitments. The event will be held at Church House in London with an audience of around 400, and will be hosted by Sarah Montague of BBC Radio 4's Today programme.
You can follow this event live, online, from 4pm on Wednesday 15 September, at www.bond.org.uk/mdgsevent. From 6 September, you can also take part in a conversation about the UK’s contribution to the MDGs using the Twitter hash tag #bondmdgs. A live Twitter stream will be broadcast onto a projector screen at the event.
As a member of Bond, UNICEF UK will be present at the event, and along with other organisations we will present the signatures from our campaign petition calling on Nick Clegg to secure decisive action on water and sanitation at the UN meeting.
There will be a question and answer session during the event. If you have a question for Mr Clegg and Mr Mitchell, please email it to Alice Bottini-Hall, Campaigns Officer, at aliceb@unicef.org.uk by midnight on 7 September. A few questions from the public will be selected to be asked on the day.
