An extremely useful tool for all those interested in sentencing has been published today by the Sentencing Guidelines Secretariat.

The 8th edition of the Sentencing Guidelines newsletter provides practitioners with detailed information about sentences for all ranges of offences down to local court or youth offending team level. It covers the period for 2002 to 2006 for adults and 2002 to the end of March 2007 for youths.

Issues highlighted in the January 2008 edition of the Sentence include the rise in imprisonment for public protection (IPP), the increase in suspended sentences orders and fall in community orders together with changing patterns in the number and length of custodial sentences

The newsletter can be accessed via the SGC website at www.sentencing-guidelines.gov.uk
