BERR Committee takes up our recommendation

The BERR Committee has taken up our recommendation concerning the threat to the survival of village shops where these are attached to a post office.

They've recommended that "there should be a presumption against closing a post office where this is the last shop in the village" .

We recently submitted written evidence to the BERR Committee as part of its inquiry into the early experiences of the current Post Office ‘Network Change Programme’ for restructuring the post office network.

We're also funding Rural Service Support to help provide national and local organisations with on-line access to experts who can help them plan for the future and identify alternative ways of providing services for their communities..
