PSN Cabinet Office update

Socitm members,

Attached is a letter from the PSN’s most senior Cabinet Office officer, Stephen Kelly. It is addressed to all PSN Stakeholders and sets out reflections on where the PSN programme has been and also important changes to the programme.

Socitm leaders have been actively involved in a dialogue with the PSN Programme through a Local Government Seniors forum that includes SOLACE, the LGA, the LCIOC and DCLG. We have been setting out our views with colleagues from the Cabinet Office, CESG, DWP, HMRC and others, who have been equally concerned to ensure that the PSN delivers benefits and enables efficient operations. A pragmatic balance of security and business agility has been our shared objective.

Socitm and the LCIOC’s input to this dialogue has been substantial and we are very pleased with the results that are emerging. Led by Socitm President, Steve Halliday with Dylan Roberts, and Jos Creese part of the Seniors Team, we have had great support from across the Socitm membership and important influence through the LCIOC.

We are cautiously confident that the 2014-15 PSN experience will be considerably less frustrating than 2013-14 has been. The attached Stephen Kelly letter sets an excellent tone on which to base this optimism and we are particularly grateful to Stephen for listening and responding in the way he has.

We look forward to a PSN that works with “security that is proportionate to the business risk and pragmatic in its implementation”. Socitm will continue to be active in ensuring a PSN that works for local public service and remains grateful to the on-going support of the membership.

Steve Halliday, Socitm President
