Cancer survival statistics
ISD Scotland has today published statistics on patients diagnosed with cancer between 1983 and 2007.
A Scottish Government spokesperson said:
"Cancer remains as a top priority for Scottish Government and for the NHS in Scotland. The overall continuing improvements in survival are to be welcomed.
"The Government is on track to meet a longstanding target of a 20% reduction in mortality rates from cancer in the under 75s by 2010, with 20.1% reduction since 1995. This is encouraging news and these figures show that, with the determination and a lot of hard work from NHSScotland, we are on track to meet some very ambitious targets to reduce these deaths.
"Better Cancer Care, the Scottish Governments action plan for cancer outlines a number of commitments that we and NHSScotland will take to improve cancer services in Scotland, which will have an impact on future cancer survival rates. This includes actions around earlier detection, more rapid diagnosis and access to modern treatments."
