Revamped maps help you avoid the edge this autumn

From this month Ordnance Survey’s site-centred mapping, OS Select, is getting a refresh: boasting a new look, better packaging and an improved finish.

The new OS Select series still allows anyone to site-centre Ordnance Survey mapping anywhere they like across Britain, but now features freshly designed, thinner packaging and enhanced print and paper quality.

OS Select helps avoid a life on the edge, allowing the user to decide what goes in the centre of the map. It could be any location that's important – someone's home,  their town or favourite walk. The maps are specially printed to order, including the customers' own personal title, like ‘Our Family Holiday’ for example, as well as a choice of selected cover photographs.

A new production process means OS Select maps are now printed on the same paper as standard ‘off-the-shelf’ Ordnance Survey maps. This makes them thinner, tougher, easier to fold and a practical option for outdoor enthusiasts as well as a fantastic gift for the person who has everything.

The maps are available in two scales of detail – 1:25 000 and 1:50 000 – and users can even decide whether to have the map legend printed in English or Welsh.

When asked why people might need an OS Select map, Ordnance Survey’s Victoria Barrett says: “Maps are a fantastic tool that can help you discover the world around you. However, you can sometimes face the problem of having a favourite walk or cycle path that runs over more than one map sheet. OS Select solves that problem by allowing you to centre the map wherever you like.

“The improvements we’re now introducing take the product to the quality level people expect when they buy a map from Ordnance Survey. The thinner paper is much easier to fold, the printing is of higher quality and the new slimline packaging allows it to easily fit through your letter box.”

OS Select maps can be ordered directly from Ordnance Survey at http://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/oswebsite/osselect or from the licensed stockists listed at http://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/oswebsite/stockists.
