Work with Parents standards

Lifelong Learning UK is the UK-wide sector skills council for the lifelong learning sector.  We create new National Occupational Standards (NOS) and update current ones, through discussion with employers and stakeholders from relevant sectors and across the four nations.

We are currently reviewing the National Occupational Standards for Work with Parents.  The standards were approved in April 2005, and were recently incrementally changed to remove level associations.

The work with parents sector developed a new functional map in March 2010 to reflect the changes in the workforce since 2005. Those involved were enthusiastic and the functional mapping was shared across the sector including at the Parenting UK Conference and other events.  We are now working with a sector expert group, with representation from each nation, to consider the detail and to draft a revised suite of NOS.

It is important that we work with the sector to ensure that the standards meet the needs of those who use them and to support this input, we are offering a number of opportunities for review. The revised Work with Parents NOS will be available for a period of four weeks, from 30 August to 24 September 2010.   During the review period, the draft NOS will be available for electronic comment and an event in each nation will be convened.

You can also 'host your own' event.  This allows you to focus on the content that is of key importance to your activities and allows you to decide on when and how long your group/s will discuss the draft standards.  We will publish materials and feedback forms to support you - all we ask is that you submit your feedback by the review closing date.
